Frequently Asked Questions

When did GS Trailers start being available under Ice Castle Trailers?

The first trailers were the crank-up trailers in late 2016. These were some of the early ones that had grease zerks. The greasless Gen 4 design hit the market in February 2017.

When did GS Hydraulic Trailers start being available under Ice Castle Trailers?

The first hydraulic trailers were built in April 2018.

Can I purchase a GS Trailer and build my own house?

Yes we sell to the public, Custom designs can cost more depending on how much customization is wanted.

Houw much does a frame cost?

If you are interested in a frame, get ahold of us for pricing. We can not put pricing on the internet for specific reasons. We have standard layouts per our designs on the web. Custom designs can cost more depending on how much customization is wanted.

Can I change stuff in the layouts for my specific application?

Yes, we have a full engineering staff that can lay out the frame that you need. We are completely customizable - and have completed frames for multiple different use projects. FYI - Customization can change the cost of the base frame.

I cant find where to grease my trailer pivot points....

GS Trailers have no grease zerks on the frame like the competitors. The only thing that needs to be greased is the wheel hubs and the jack.

What type of grease should I use in my hubs?

Disc/Drum Wheel Bearing Grease. This grease is formulated specifically to lubricate automotive wheel bearings, which turn at high speed. In addition, grease for wheel bearings will tolerate the heat created by your brakes, which work by friction. That heat can be transmitted to your wheel bearings. This grease can also be used for general-purpose lubrication. Disc/drum brake wheel bearing grease is especially effective for wheel bearings, and it works on vehicles with either disc or drum brakes. Lubricates high-speed wheel bearings. Tolerates heat generated by your vehicle's brakes. Doubles as a general-purpose grease

How many miles should I put on before I reapck my hubs?

You should be able to put on 8-10,000 miles before repacking. We recomend checking bearing play and grease pack at least once a year.

Can I use any oil on my crank-up pivot points?

No, do not use oil or penetrant on the crank frame pivot points. This will ruin the bushings. They are designed to run dry.

I scratched my Xtreme Liner. How can I fix it.

The best way to fix a minor cut or abrasion is to sand it to a feathered edge, and they use a truck bed liner and give it multiple coats. We recommend the Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating - Black Texture Finish.

I scratched my Galvanize coating. How can I fix it?

The easiest way is to use a spray on cold galvanizing spray from a can. We can sell you a 95% Zinc spray. Cost of the spray and shipping is around $55 per can.

What are the travel lock pins for?

The cylinders that lift the axles are hydraulic, and then there is a lock block that holds them in place. This lock block works good, but there can be potential areas that can fail and allow the frame to drop. Even a cylinder could explode and cause failure. So we designed the travel locks to hold the house up in case of failure. They are recommended to be put in at all times of travel. Both front and rear. 4 total. The house can settle a bit during storage and travel. It may be necessary to bump the house up to release the pins.

What can I do on my houses wheel well area to keep it clean and rust free?

What we have done is sprayed the wheel well areas and cables and everything with a clear spray wax. This will keep the salt from attacking and help keep road slop from building up some. I will be almost impossible to keep it from getting some surface rust forever.

I see the frame has a warranty. Is this for the coating also?

The frame warranty is for workmanship and materials. It does not cover the coatings. If there is a major problem with the coatings, they will be addressed on a needed basis. Frame repairs will be dealt with on an individual basis and investigated for abusive use.

How much weight can a CRANK UP frame carry?

If you have a crank frame that HAS brakes, the axles are 3500# components per side - allowing the total, including the house structure, to carry 7000# max. Best thing to do is to weigh your house on a truck scale to find its exact weight, as each house build varies. This will determine the capacity of extra goods that you can carry.

If you have a crank frame that has DOES NOT have brakes, the axles are 3500# components per side - but the hubs and tires are only capable of 2500# - allowing the total, including the house structure, to carry 5000# max. Best thing to do is to weigh your house on a truck scale to find its exact weight, as each house build varies. This will determine the capacity of extra goods that you can carry.

How much weight can a HYDRAULIC frame carry?

If you have a HYDRAULIC FRAME, we use 2 different weight axles.

If it is a 6.5 Wide frame, Single Axle, we use a 5000# axle.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Single Axle, 14' and under, we use a 5000# axle. Keeps the ride smooth.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Single Axle, 16' and over, we use a 6000# axle. This gives maxium weight carring capacity for singel axles.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Tandem Axle, length is 18' to 21', we use 5000# axles. We do this so that the axles provide a little better ride and dont bounce so bad.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Tandem Axle, length is 22' to 30', we use 6000# axles. This gives the bigger houses more weight capacity.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Tripple Axle, length is 28' to 32', we use 5000# axles. 6000# axles can be requested.

If it is a 8' Wide frame, Tripple Axle, length is 34' to 42', we use 6000# axles. 5000# axles can be requested.

We can put any axle in that you want when you design your house - just let us know what you need. These are just our guidelines.

Best thing to do is to weigh your house on a truck scale to find its exact weight, as each house build varies. This will determine the capacity of extra goods that you can carry.
